Gwil and Scrappy
Together at Mary Street!
We're going full-on south Austin house party.
Gather at 7:30
Music starts around 8
Gwil is coming back from Nashville for a short visit
and we are fortunate to have him and Scrappy at Sessions On Mary!
Gwil’s songs have been covered by Irma Thomas, Little Feat, and Jack Ingram, among others. The song "Deuce and a Quarter" (co-written with Kevin Gordon) was recorded by Keith Richards and Levon Helm for the album All The Kings Men. He was an Academy Award nominee in 1999 for the song "A Soft Place to Fall" (co-written with Allison Moorer) featured in Robert Redford's movie The Horse Whisperer.
But in Austin we know Gwil as the master behind many of Toni Price's most requested songs such as "Nothing But Heartache," "Hey," "Tumbleweed," and 32 more of your favorites.
He recently released My Brother The Wind, produced by Rich Brotherton, with many of the songs shared pre-release only at Sessions On Mary.
Scrappy is a highly regarded Austin-based guitarist, songwriter, and producer known for his extensive work in the roots and rock scenes. For over 35 years he has been a fixture of the Austin music community, often described as a "musician's musician" for his versatile and soulful guitar playing.
Perhaps he's best known as a founding member of The Resentments. But he has also toured and recorded with a wide array of prominent artists, including The Loose Diamonds, Guy Clark, Jon Dee Graham, Stephen Bruton, Terry Allen, Ian "Mac" McLagan and Toni Price.
Opening the evening's events is Maisy Owen, a Nashville native, who has been surrounded by music and the art of songcraft just about all her life. First came the viola at the age of 9, then guitar where she embraced fingerpicking while soaking in influences from Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, Mazzy Star and David Olney. Raised in a musical family, her father Gwil Owen is an Academy Award-nominated songwriter.
Maisy’s unique sound, musical truth and stirring vocals inhabit Dark On A Sunny Day, her debut album, produced by Robin Eaton and to be released in the Spring of 2026 on Tompkins Square Records. Drawn to melancholic melodies and dark poetic imagery, her first single “My Youth Is All For You” was released as a 7” and hit streaming services in October of 2025.
Gwil and Scrappy are performing twice, Friday and Saturday evenings April 17 and 18.
